"This brazenly retro Broadway musical, inspired by Plautus, is as timeless as comedy itself." -Vincent Canby, The New York Times
"The most urbane and literate musical comedy text ever conceived." -John Simon, New York magazine

In a desperate attempt to win his freedom, the slave, Pseudolus, attempts to help his young master, Hero, earn the love of a courtesan, Philia. Meanwhile, Pseudolus has to outsmart Hero's parents, the slave-master, Lycus, and the large man that has already paid for Philia, Miles Gloriosus. Also, an old man Erronious is desperately searching for his lost children who were kidnapped by pirates at infancy.

The audition for Forum will take place at the Melville Theatre Saturday July 4th.
Please prepare a song from a musical displaying your vocal ability. This can be either unaccompanied or you can bring a backing CD with no vocals.
The timeslots are 15 minutes but as we will also pair people up to do a bit of reading from the play please be prepared to stay for about an hour.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill in your personal details.
Due to the complexity of the musical we will not be able to give parts to people who are involved in other plays at the same time.
The show will run for 3 weeks from the beginning of October.
Please E-mail Lars Jensen using the heading Forum on vandlars@bigpond.net.au to book an audition timeslot or phone 9354 7651

7 out of the 9 main roles are men.
How are you going to cast that many men who can sing?
There are so many other musicals out there which have plenty of female roles. You'd have way more luck casting something with a female heavy cast.

I'm sure there are 7 actors who can sing in Perth. Please feel free to submit a show to direct next year when we call for submissions shortly.

I was dismissive of Walter Men's comment above, and it seems the chickens may have come home to roost. Response to the audition notice has been poor, and I would encourage anyone who is interested to contact Lars and book an audition time.
Come on musical men of Perth - instead of muttering into your beards about there being no good roles for the older set, get into action and call. We need you - and a few females, by the way.

Thanks to those that expressed their interest. Unfortunately, our quest for an MD proved fruitless (until the last minute) and last night, the Melville committee met with the director and decided that it would be best to postpone the production until 2010.
An MD has been found, but so as not to do it all in a rush, Forum has been tentatively slotted into the #2 slot for 2010, which would put it around March/April.
Dates will be firmed up when the new committee decides on the 2010 season.
By the way, we are now accepting submissions from directors for next year.

There is no need to be so

There is no need to be so rude and sarcastic in your responses. It is no wonder audition interest was low...people have made some enquiries (young people too) and have been fobbed off with rudeness. Hope you can sort out the attitude before 2010, otherwise you will be postponing the event again!

I have no idea who Kendra Mitchell (not verified) is.
