MATES Theatre Society are auditioning now for their mid-year production, to be held in June-July 2009, which will be titled Shades of MATES. It will turn the spotlight on the light and shade of drama, music and comedy. Two, one-act plays will be presented and separated by lively musical performances.
The Eulogy is a one-act drama where Russell Hamilton-Myrtons pays a visit to his dying mother Meredith—the matriarch of a family who has been successful in the property business.
Russell surprises her with a preview of the eulogy he intends to deliver at her funeral—so she knows how he feels about her. The uncomfortable exercise unearths dark family secrets that completely transform their mother-son relationship and delivers a powerful drama.
It examines the relationship between mother and son, husband and wife, and explores the notion of: does one really know what goes on in people’s minds, and how many people keep secrets from their nearest and dearest.
Combining light moments and sad ones this script delivers a power drama in one act.

Director Fred Pezzimenti will bring the heat and music of New Orleans alive in this production. He has a strong cast and an interesting set for such a classic play. Blanche DuBois arrives at the apartment of her sister Stella and her husband Stanley Kowalski. Blanche is a relic of the Old South, Stanley a Polish immigrant, powerful and confident. A Streetcar Named Desire is a reflection of old America and the thriving new America of the immigrants. There is constant conflict between reality and fantasy, actual and ideal. The clash between the two culminates in tragic ramifications for all.
