Children’s Letters To God – A New Musical
Book by Stuart Hample. Music by David Evans. Lyrics by Douglas J. Cohen.
Based on the international best-selling book by Stuart Hample and Eric Marshall.

Performance Season: February – March 2011 – Marloo Theatre, Marloo Road, Greenmount WA

- Synopsis -

Inspired by the international bestseller of the same name, Children's Letters To God is a musical that follows the lives of five young friends as they voice beliefs, desires, questions and doubts common to all people but most disarmingly expressed by children. Sixteen tuneful songs and assorted scenes (some based on actual letters) explore timeless issues such as sibling rivalry, divorce, holidays, loss of a beloved pet, the trials of being unathletic and first love. This entertaining show carries a universal message which crosses the boundaries of age, geography, and religion. As in the best-selling book, the musical is not specifically religious in nature. It's about kids and various events in their lives that lead them to ask a lot of questions -- some funny, some serious, some surprising.

- Cast List -

Cast size is 25 (including 5 lead roles)

Joanna, 15 – Bright, responsible, and romantic, she is often forced to take care of her intrusive little brother, Kicker, who at times drives everyone crazy. She’s in the same class as Brett, whom she has her heart set.

Kicker, 12 - Joanna’s brother; imaginative; questions everything; often feels powerless because he is the youngest and the smallest in the group.

Brett, 16 – A doubter, sometimes a tad cocky to cover his insecurities, parents divorced. His prized possession is a baseball cap covered with a variety of pins from special places which he wears all the time.

Iris, 13 - 14 – Passionately in love with her pet turtle, Arnold. Tends to over dramatise herself and has a secret crush on Brett.

Theo, 13 - 14 – About to celebrate his 14th birthday. Totally inept physically but is happy that he is not as physically inept as Kicker. Would fervently like to be an athlete/hero. Wears glasses.

Please note that the above ages are not necessarily the ages required "stage ages"

hi apologies but i think the ages for this are a bit different to the ones in the original show just wondering if this has been done purposely. Brett sings a song about being 13 and it says here he's 16. Here is the link to the website that says the ages which are a bit different to the ones above

Hi Anoynomous - yes Brett does sing a song about being 13, entitled 'Thirteen'. However as it does say in the audition notice:
"Please note that the above ages are not necessarily the ages required "stage ages""

Ages on this audition notice at approx only - The director and I have discuss that the role of Brett does require a certain level of acting maturity - hence the approx age of "16" being noted on the audition notice.

Apologies for any confusion this may have cause. Please feel free to contact the director with any questions such as these.
