Acorn Theatre to close

Sharon Mobilia | 05/02/2010 - 12:22

It was voted at Wednesday nights AGM to close Acorn Theatre. There are not enough willing motivated members left to run the theatre as a travelling concern. A sad day as another community theatre says goodbye.

Let it not be a total end. May the spirit live on ... somehow.

Hopefully other theatres will open their arms to the Acornians who wish to continue on their theatre journeys. There was a lot of talent hidden away in the foothills of Gosnells. I hope they have the courage to use that talent on the bigger stages in the community.

A sad day indeed,  we can ill afford to lose any community organisations.

All of you will be very welcome at any and all of the local theatres.

Please don't hesitate to come and join one (or more) ot them.

Can Water Flow Uphill?

Sharon

Geographically I think Roleystone is the closest theatre to Acorn? Correct me if I'm wrong.
And we're not THAT scary!!!

Future shows there include:
Into the Woods (musical) - already cast but may still be looking for crew
My Fair Lady (musical) - needs LOTS of people
A Weekend in Dallas (play) - needs LOTS of guys
Nine (musical) - needs LOTS of women

I'm sure the Acorn Talent Pool would be MORE THAN WELCOME if they can flow a little bit further up the hill.

Thanks Paul, I love it up at Roleystone, It has a great atmosphere, and there is always a great vibe from the casts. You may see me there sooner rather than later.

I am so sorry to hear this... this is terrible news !!!
So many patrons and practitioners have enjoyed the warm hospitality and shows at Acorn !
Louis Shepherd, myself and the team thoroughly enjoyed filming Acorn for The Green Room...
Of course there's room for Acorn members at any of the clubs... Gail, Bee, Sharon... please get in touch with me...

Cheers

Although I am from SA you have my deepest sympathy. It is always sad to hear that a company has closed. I really hope you all find new homes. Perhaps rather than sell up maybe passing on your assets to another group that would appreciate them would be a good concept.

Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing.

All of our Lights, props etc are going to a drama school. I'm not sure where they are situated. Any cash left over will be going to charity.

Plug for Melville T.C.

Following on from Paul's post it would be unfair not to mention several companies in the southern suburbs. Nothing against Rolystone, they are a good company and they are certainly quick to realise when they are on a winner.

Melville Theatre's web site is http://www.meltheco.org.au/ and I'm new there myself but I have been made to feel more than welcome.

Anyone else want ot get a plug in?

KADS is probably as close to Acorn as Roleystone. Darlington isn't far, especially if you cut through Forrestfield and Helena Valley and Garrick not much further.

Thanks to all the kind comments and well wishes. I will pass these on to my friends at Acorn. If anyone is interested Acorn is having their final cleanup this Saturday 13th Feb @ 10am. If you are a theatre that is looking for a few bits and pieces drop me a message.

From your friends in Harbour who have been similarly thrown out of their venue, this is very sad news indeed. It is not an easy decision to wind up a theatre and one we considered - it has only been by sheer luck that we've managed to secure a home, even if only temporarily.

All the best to the Acorn members in whatever endeavours they choose to pursue. I hope that this experience won't sour their love of theatre. Any members near Fremantle are welcome at Harbour.

So sad to hear. Is there really no hope of continuing?? I am ever the eternal optimist and I hate to hear of companies going under in the entertainment arena.

You were the theatre in the Guiness Book of records right? Poop, this means the title goes to some other company now. Not meaning to be petty here as I am MORE aggrieved for you and your company and it's patrons.

Bon chance in all your new endeavours.
