I am stunned after reading this.
I was excited when I read about Tanja's appointment earlier this year, and was interested to see where this amazing co. would go post-Murphy.
Then this. It appears she was hit by a garbage truck early this morning and died.

Condolences to her family and friends, and to all those in the company.

Sydney Dance Company director killed

The newly-appointed artistic director for the Sydney Dance Company has been killed in an accident in northern Sydney.

Tanja Liedtke, 30, was hit by a garbage truck as she was crossing the Pacific Highway, near the Hume Street intersection, at Crows Nest.

The incident occurred around 2:00am AEST.

Ambulance crews arrived at scene and found Liedtke with serious head injuries.

She died later in Royal North Shore Hospital.

Police are investigating.

The 39-year-old truck driver was not injured and is helping police with their investigation.

A spokeswoman for the Sydney Dance Company has confirmed the death.

She says the company sends its deepest sympathies to Liedtke's partner and family.

Lideke was appointed artistic director of the company in May, replacing Graeme Murphy.

'Beautiful and very talented'

Sydney's Goethe Institute had forged a bond with the German-born dancer to promote cultural links between Australia and Germany.

Its director, Klaus Krischok, says he is deeply saddened by the news of her death.

"Tanja was supposed to go to Berlin on a scholarship with the Goethe Institute in three weeks time, so we're really, really, really sad to see this beautiful and very talented person go," he said.

The director of Perth's Institute of Contemporary Arts, Amy Barrett-Lennard, says Liedtke's death is a tragic loss.

"[She was] clearly someone who had a whole heap of energy and a great creative purpose, and I think her appointment to that position in Sydney is a testament to that," she said.

"It just is someone clearly cut off well before their prime."

Set just before the turn of the century amidst a rapidly changing late Victorian society, two brothers: Victor and William Godfrey, once rescued from a life of orphanages and cold streets, safeguard the house of their late benefactor Arthur Worthing. But death has rearranged the boundaries the late Mr. Worthing erected in life, and soon... the halls of Worthing manor are full of the most unexpected guests, many of whom remember the old man by very different terms. Life has grown convoluted for the brothers Godfrey, but all will be well if Victor can win the hand of the fair Parthena and William can hide his greatest secret as it dangles right under everyone's noses. Times are changing, but will they change for the better?
