Any new theatres being built that need a flying system installed?

Are there any theatres in Australia having a flying system built or refitted at present?

I worked on about a dozen or so of these refits including Saddlers Wells in Islington (electro hydraulic drum winches with touch screen control by Krupp/Statec), The Barbican Concert Hall (London, stage risers and Krupp winches) refit in 2001 in addition to mods in 1998, counterweight purchase (or hemphouse) systems in the Alexandra in Birmingham, the Liverpool Empire and Londons Lyceum among others...

I've also rigged shows in Alhambra (Bradford), Palladium, Lyceum, Aldwych, Her Majesty's, The Old Vic, Victoria Palace, Adelphi, Theatre Royal, The Prince of Wales and the Shaftesbury in London. I'm sure there are others but it's been a long time...

I enjoyed the work and am wondering who hires for this kind of work in Australia when it does happen, any ideas?

Stagecraft in Osbourne Park, WA design and build flying systems for Australasia. Not sure who does it over east, no doubt Show Tech Australia are involved.http://www.showtechaustralia.com.au/about.htm

Have a look at ALIA web site http://www.alia.com.au/ and have a look at the forumns.

I'm not sure how many

I'm not sure how many venues do have their rigs refitted, or how often. There are smaller venues that don't have proper rigs, while larger companies will use production companies like Showtech. Another one is Bytecraft - quite possibly the largest prod. company on the east side. They do a lot of rigging systems for large productions and venues. www.bytecraftentertainment.com. You should also contact APACA, the Australian Performing Arts Centre Association (www.apaca.com.au), which is made up of the community and arts venues around Australia, as well as the people who run them.

And yes, ALIA is also the best place to look for tech work.

But more importantly - do you have licences to rig in Australia? I'm not sure the certificates here are internationally recognised and vice versa - and you can't do rigging without a licence.

After getting a divorce from C.K. Dexter Haven, Tracy Lord prepares to marry again… however, in the days before her wedding, Haven and a reporter, posing as her brother’s friend, show up at her doorstep. From there, Tracy is forced to choose among her past love, her present love and her new love. Amidst the situation comedy, and fast-paced dialogue, Barry explores several contemporary social issues, such as society’s perception of class differences in America and attitudes towards adultery and divorce in the 1930’s.
