From the VCASS music auditon guidelines, at their website:

"At the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School we teach all orchestral instruments (Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion), plus the following: Voice, Piano, Guitar (classical), Electric Guitar/Guitar (contemporary) Saxophone, Electric Bass, Drum Kit and other instruments (subject to approval).

The ability to read and understand music notation is essential. As a guide, students entering are expected to have the equivalent musical knowledge of AMEB theory/musicianship at the following grade levels: Years 7 – Grade 1, Year 8 – Grade 2, Years 9-10 – Grade 3, Years 11-12 - Grade 4 or higher."
