Did you see this other thread about ATM?

http://www.theatre.asn.au/billboard_bulletins/is_the_australian_talent_management_agency_good

(Yes, you did, I checked your profile for your previous page visits)

Please let's not start yet another thread about the same company and same dodgy agency issues. There's plenty of other insightful, informative posts about agencies and what you should know. Check the FAQ for a good post about what an agency should do and what you should know when joining one.

"Before I went in I went to Blackbox and paid $165 for photos and went into a dark dingy studio and got 2 headshots done there was people smoking in the office and a sleezy photographer took my pictures and they were a joke. I have been in this industry for 10 years and I found ATM to be offering the best service so far"

That doesn't make any sense. A sleazy photographer took your photos and they were a joke, and yet your still happy with the service?

"Dont listen to people posting rubbish about any company that cannot even provide a name as well."

Please, please read the other threads. You will see that this topic has been covered on both sides of the aisle.

"Don’t worry about people being influenced by silly things like facts:)lol speculate all you want"

I'll be the first one to post information provided by a third-party - whether it's good or bad - about ATM. I have not found any yet, only posts from happy clients, unhappy clients, and the company itself. I'd love to have some info from a non-interested party. And I'd still like to get an answer - are you an agency, or are you a subscription service? Or do you not make a definition? (By the way, does Allied Talent Management have a website... I couldn't find you or the company anywhere... but the address is correct, because that's what's listed on the Aus. site)

I did not start this thread, nor the other one. I have no doubt that perhaps some of the posts were from your competition - I may be naive, but I prefer to believe that these people are telling the truth. I, and others, responded with that belief, and provided useful information on actors' rights when dealing with agencies. If you don't want actors to know about MEAA, Fair Trade, or other such organisations...

"This website seems to be allowing small local somewhat backward agencies to be posting slanderous comments on this website about the ATM group. "

Grant, the site admin, has a policy of free speech. He can and has removed posts which he has been informed of their slanderous properties; otherwise, they stay. Feel free to contact him.

"My issue with you is credibility or lack of it on your part."

Feel free to state what exactly is bothering you about my credibility. I have no ties to any agency. I am not an actress. I work for no arts institution at this time, except on my own productions.

I find it incredible that you think it is slanderous to advise people to a) read the information provided on both sides of the aisle, b) read and be informed about the rights of an actor, and the expectations of an agency, and c) follow up if there are any concerns (which is a customer's right).

Here are a couple of my posts from the other thread:

"Whoa, you're getting ahead of yourself there... how about we find some actual comments from people who have used the service, or have heard about it. Let's not tar every agency with the same brush - let's get some proof about its legitimacy/suspiciousness first." "I'm not saying that ATM is or isn't legit. I'm just saying that you should never take something for granted, and you should always do your research before signing up with an agency. "

Does anyone actually read what I write, or do they prefer to put words in my mouth? Or were those posts also slanderous? You will see that I have neither defended ATM, nor outright supported the complainants.

"The tide is coming in and we have worldwide connections and a huge budget."

If that is a threat, by all means... I'm sticking by what I wrote, and I'm not scared of your 'connections' or your budget. Smiling

In case you haven't noticed, I have been encouraging people to stop posting to this thread. There is no longer any use in this debate, no new information has been provided, and the topic has been covered to death.

I am going to ask Grant to lock this thread.

(I did have a couple of other points to my argument, but unfortunately, had to write the post over again due to the page timing out. However, the salient details are here. PS. the title of the post refers to an Italian playwright, who did not believe in fact, only truth as it is perceived by each person)

I'm only going to say one thing - everyone has a right to express their opinion and to begin a debate. Don't be dissuaded to ask for help or advice just because the topic has been discussed before. All personal experiences are relevant, people will make their own judgments as to their validity. Message boards are not the place to get caught up in whether anecdotes are slanderous or defamatory, that's the point of having an online forum.

While ATM may legally enforce removal of certain material as has been done by another agency in the past, they cannot enforce the closure of a public forum. This currently is against the law of Freedom of Speech, which despite the sedition laws of recent remain very much intact in this particular case.

It is to the right of any individual to voice their opinions. Slanderous comments and obvious attacks are certainly overstepping the bounds somewhat and there moderators can pull on the reigns a little. Yet they cannot censure all such commentary or be held accountable themselves. To inhibit another's right to an opinion is still (in the large) illegal in this country, unless it be considered slanderous and defamatory.

We all get slammed from time to time. The measure of a good person/business/agency is their ability to stand that punishment and be accountable. Some agencies have rightly deserved exposure, others have been unfairly represented. That is simply free-speech at work.

Of for f- sake. Read my above post.

Grant does and has removed posts, BUT ONLY WHEN ASKED. I'm sure somewhere on this site there is a small blurb about the admin not being liable for slander... furthermore, if you believe the posts are slanderous, you can report them to the admin or vote them down.

And I agree with Labrug - there is only so much one person can do. Anyone from ATM is most welcome to disagree; they can contact Grant personally if they feel they need to.

As for 'who is editing this site'... read my above para. You can participate - of course, hardly anyone does. Media Watch has better things to do. This is an online forum, anyone can contribute, anyone can participate, anyone can moderate, and anyone is allowed to say what they like - the admin of this site is NOT responsible for what someone else writes.

For the last time, can we please close this thread?

Stuart Little, I think you'll find that on practically EVERY forum site and other community-based/run website, there will be a Terms and Conditions page, that includes information about how the site administration is NOT responsible or liable for posts written by other people. It is standard legalise; and perhaps next time you join a site, you should read the T&C carefully.

No, they don't think themselves immune: they just believe that people should be personally held liable for what they contribute. Just like I held you personally responsible for making comments about Grant, and chose to participate in the moderation, by voting your comment down.

Why don't you ask them? I'm sure they have a web admin or contact person who you can get to tell you.... Try calling or emailing them.

On the other hand, if you meant to say "How do I access my profile on this (this referring to Theatre Australia) website"... then we could help you.
