Fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sons... we all have them or perhaps have a hole in our lives where one should or used to be.
In 2002 I got together with a bunch of crusty old buggers from the Menswork Project to stage The Men by NSW playwright Chris Dickins.
By turns it was coarse, sexist, vulgar, aggressive, hilarious and intensely moving - devastating in its portrayal of aging baby boomers. A very confronting piece. So much so that, as we toured around the Perth metro area, every performance was followed by a refreshment break and the option to attend a facilitated forum after the show; usually attended by most of the audience! Plenty of courageous conversation on issues of gender, aging, sexuality, suicide, communication… Back then the show received a Health Promotion Award from Healthway.
We’re back for another few weeks!
Featuring four of Perth's best loved actors, Conrad Crisafulli, Peter Fry, Fred Lawson and Carmelo Lenzo we're playing for the next three weeks. Links to BOCS Ticketing for details:
