MAMM - details about their fees

Rae Johnston | 26/10/2006 - 12:55

In a post a few months ago I stated that along with Roseys, MAMM charge a fee to join.
I have since been contaceted by MAMM, and been informed that the fees I spoke of are
to cover the cost of Showcast and AT2 listings, and that if you have your own headshots
you may use them. basically if you are an actor that already has paid for these services for yourself,
it costs nothing to join MAMM. At the time I spoke to MAMM in the past I was not informed of what the
fees were for, and I therefore apologise for any misrepresentation of MAMM or any misunderstanding that my
comments may have caused.

Rae, it is very considerate of you to make this statement. There are agents in Perth that do the same thing, have a fee which covers the cost of going onto a national register and having photos taken for such. I DO feel that it the responsibility of the Agent to inform their prospective clients of these arrangements however and shouldn't be up to the client to discover on their own.

That being said, to all on this site, if you are asked for an upfront fee, do not feel obligated to pay it. Joining an agency should always be free so why should they charge a fee. In this case, it was for something OTHER than joining the agency itself and in that case, you have to opportunity to decide if you WANT to pay it.

While I have stated over and over again that up-front fees are to be avoided (am I am not for one second going back on that statement) there are services that are OFFERED upon signing up which do require payment. Showcast and AT2 are two of thos types of services, but as Rae mentioned in her 'Example', they were completely optional and could be avoided if they were supplied with evidence and photos of yourself.

You should never have to pay a compulsory fee. There shouldn't be any.

After getting a divorce from C.K. Dexter Haven, Tracy Lord prepares to marry again… however, in the days before her wedding, Haven and a reporter, posing as her brother’s friend, show up at her doorstep. From there, Tracy is forced to choose among her past love, her present love and her new love. Amidst the situation comedy, and fast-paced dialogue, Barry explores several contemporary social issues, such as society’s perception of class differences in America and attitudes towards adultery and divorce in the 1930’s.
