Posting Page Not Found feedback

Labrug | 01/11/2010 - 16:01

If you posted feedback with regards to missing Pages in this site in the past couple of days, it may have gone unnoticed. Our Page Not Found Feedback service is currently under a heavy SPAM attack and were are getting hundereds of postings every day.

As you may appreciate, this is a lot to go through just to find the rare honest reports. If you have reported a Missing Page or do happen to find one for the time being, please post a comment in this thread instead and we will review as required.

Jeff.

Our Page Not Found feedback service continues to be hit, and presently it is extreme, by automated viral posters. If you have reported a broken link recently, it is very likely it has not been picked up.

Please report broken links here.

This problem could easily be solved by adding a decent turing test. Spam would be cut down a huge amount.

You know who to speak to about that. Eye-wink

As I understand it the Feedback Pages are outside of the standard SPAM Trapping functions. Options have been investigated but they are rather difficult to implement in the current structure.

Yes, yes I do. Sticking out tongue

I don't understand though what you mean about 'outside' of standard spam traps. I've added a number of turing tests to many sites in a number of different ways. You can add honey traps, questions (word or equation answers), recaptcha... All that's needed is the addition of a bit of code and some validation. Heck, a couple of months ago I taught myself how to do that on a mail form.

Whether the page is public or members only, you can still add a spam filter. What's getting in the way of adding it?

The Man tried this and found he couldn't do it. Beyond that, I don't know.
