The Return

jeffhansen | 12/02/2010 - 10:43

The Return, by Perth playwright Reg Cribb, opens tonight at Melville Theatre, corner of Stock Rd and Canning Hwy in Palmyra.

At midnight, on a hot summers night in 2001, two ex cons board the last train to Fremantle. Bored, restless and looking for trouble, they start to poke fun at their mind numbing existence. Until a beautiful young law student, steps into the carriage, alone, and seemingly unaware that the guards are on strike.

But there's more to this young woman than meets the eye. And when two other passengers join the train further down the line, the balance of power takes an unexpected twist.

Told in real time using one claustrophobic location, The Return is a tense psychological drama about five people who discover they are not the people they think they are. It's a story about class and prejudice, where perception seems more important than truth, and nobody knows who they can trust. Filmed as Last Train To Freo in 2006.

Featuring the talents of Adam Shuttleworth, Jesse Way, Annabel Maclean, Penny Searle and Tom Walding.

I have discovered that when attaching an image, the site cuts it down in size. If you can, convert it to a PDF or put in a word doc and attach that.

EDIT: You got it

To all cast and crew of the good ship "Return". In the words of Eliot McCann - do not suck. In the words of Murray Jackson - break a bunch. It's a light-hearted night out to the theatre tonite isn't it? The Return at Melville, The Boys at Old Mill. It's date night in theatre land south of the river. Why not treat that loved one to an early Valentine's Day gift - a heart-warming night at the theatre.

Travel just a little further South and you will find - while not exactly a light heatred romcom as Jeff calls them - at least some good laughs in between the serious bits!
'Jigsaws' at Kwinana has a bit of everything, including long distance romance. A much better bet for a Valentine.
Yes, shameless self promotion, but somebody has to do it.
Opening night tonight. See you there!

...but there's a snogging scene in The Boys which could qualify on some level as romance.
To keep Jeff happy, there is the romance of Melville theatre itself - a lovely place with lovely people and a lovely bar with lovely drinks. Lovely canteen staff sell lovely edibles and a lovely cuppa and the seats are lovely too. All in all - lovely

Hmmm.
In who's universe is that scene romantic, Muzz?
You're probably lucky Julia hasn't passed out from lack of oxygen - or does the blue cheese pizza you ate before the show keep here awake?

Anyway....we've got kissing. Very touching it is too.

We don't have any kissing - I did say it was a long distance romance, but we do have the 'o' word and quite a discussion about it!
