Coming up at MTC

It's a busy time at Melville at the moment.

Coming up this Saturday is auditions for our one act season. I directed my first show in last years one-acts, and in keeping with our policy of giving new directors a go, we have two first timers this year, as well as one very experienced (and talented IMHO)director.

Next weekend sees the opening of our third season for the year - Richard Greenburg's "The American Plan", directed by Geoff Leeder. It's probably not the sort of show you might expect to see at Melville, and with the talented cast Geoff has assembled, will be well worth seeing.
Opens next Thursday.

All members and prospective members (membership forms accepted on the night) are invited to our AGM at 7:30pm on July 8th. A new committee (or possibly some of the same old faces) will be elected to take us through the next twelve months, and nibbles and drinks will be provided after the meeting. I encourage anyone who wants to participate in your local theatre company to come along. We are always looking for new faces, as some of the old ones are getting a bit wrinkly.

Melville Theatre Company operates from the Roy Edinger Centre, on Stock Rd, near the corner of Canning Hwy, Palmyra.

Hope to see some new faces, and all the familiar ones, at theatre in the near future.

Jeff Hansen
Vice President
Melville Theatre Company

There I go, spouting dates off the top of my head without checking. The AGM is the 8th, not the 4th.

OK? 8th of July.

The 4th is, of course, cracker night in some country or other.

Thanks Vanessa. Original post now edited.

Something I should have added to the above post - We are auditioning Sondheim's "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" on July 4th.
If you are up for a bit of musical comedy then contact the director. Details on the link provided below.

Well, a spanner has been thrown into the works of late. Due to the lack of an MD, we have decided to postpone Forum until season 2 next year. I believe we now have a full crew, and all is in order for an April-ish season.

The Winter Warmers auditions went well, with more people turning up than roles available, which is a nice change. Usually we're chasing people for the one act season, but all three plays were fully cast on the day. There have since been a couple of changes, with Martin Lindsay and Di Ryman replacing a couple of unfortunate withdrawals. Rehearsals are now in full swing, and bookings can be made at 9330 4565.

The American Plan was very well received by audiences and critics alike. A lot of the comments were along the lines of "That was an unusual choice for Melville", but in a positive sense.
My congratulations to Geoff and his cast and crew for a very well put together show. In a way I felt it was an antidote to the run of comedies on at MTC at the moment. Dramatic relief, if you like.

Keep an eye out for an audition notice for our replacement season for "Forum".

As of last week's AGM, Jeff Hansen is Melville's President for 2009-2010.

And the audition notice for the replacement show in place of 'Forum" is posted and Stuart is just waiting for your call- or rather email!!

So come one and all to the Winter Warmers season to enjoy three plays with some old (as in experienced and familiar)faces and some new and fresh to Melville
