Second Samuel - Becoming Much Bigger than Ben Hur, and Far More Exciting!

JustSuse | 26/08/2009 - 23:44

I promised an update before long, and here it is. Not only am I being sent an actor, the AUTHOR (Pamela Parker) is coming to Perth too!!
So, if you are part of the production you will be able to chat to them both at length about Theatre in the USA. If you come to see the show you will be able to chat to them in the Bar afterwards. Win/win in my view.

Of course there is - for me - the somewhat worrying point as to whether I will be able to meet their expectations. The only way I can see to be reasonably certain that I do, is to pick my cast from the absolute cream of the actors, of both sexes, available here in Perth. Therefore I have to admit that I am not only scouting, but will definitely be doing some serious pre-casting. So if you want to complain about this, go for it. I will hold auditions for the roles that are still available by the end of February, so you will still have a reasonable chance of getting a role. As it is a non-club production I feel that not only do I have a perfect right to do this, but I would be a complete fool NOT to do it.

There may be an even bigger announcement about this show still to come, so keep an eye on this website.

As before, you are welcome to email me on justsuse2003@yahoo.com.au if you have questions or would like a script.
I will be casting only experienced actors.

For those of you who haven't yet caught on - ozzieparker IS the author! And the African-American gent in the photo she uses is Nat Martin, the actor who is coming to reprise his role as U.S. Simpson in the play.

I can't help thinking that having a genuine southerner in the cast is going to make the rest of the cast's accents sound apalling.
I hope you and Nat can whip them into shape in time.

Nat is actually from Kansas, I think it is. He had to learn the accent too. But he and Pam are both very willing to help and will coach anyone who needs a bit of assistance with the accent.

Please tell anyone who asks I will be most happy to put some 'south in yo mouth' no matter what it takes. One thing I think may help is my fried chicken and biscuits. Which I don't mind telling you is the best in this hemisphere. My Bannana puddin' has received the highest praise possible here in Georgia, which is- "Girl, yo done stuck yo foot in it!" (I've been told that means something else entirely down there)
So not only are you getting a playwright... you are getting a fry cook!
Sue! Maybe I can do this for opening night! Wouldn't that be cool?

You never know what's comin' for you.

Pam, while I don't doubt for one minute your prowess as a chicken, biscuit and banana puddin' cook, if you read the string of posts concerning what people here like to do to ready themselves for a performance, you will find that not one of them mentions stuffing themselves with rich or fried food. I would not like to have them all suffering from over indulgence in your proffered culinary delights for the first show.
How about you do it all for the last night party instead?
By the way, biscuits are something different here too.

I'm American. I forget these things! Cookies are biscuits and biscuits are Scones .... theater is theatre and a bathroom is a toilet..... I got to remember these things....
I reckon!
Bob's your uncle!

Remind me to tell you about my first adventure trying to buy chicken at 'woolworth's supermarket.... I thought 'Chook' was an insult or something ...

You never know what's comin' for you.
