Virgin Director - Rehearsals Begin

Labrug | 02/06/2006 - 16:22

Having now finalised the cast list after a few hick-ups and headaches, I now have us all meeting for our first group read through, except it won’t be. Why is everyone’s timetable so conflicting? Of the five in the cast, three have commitments which basically overlap each other in the worst possible way. Sunday is everyone’s good day. Thank Dickens for that, one day out of seven, except for this Sunday. We will be one short for the first read through. ARGHH!!!

As for the rest of the rehearsal period, we’ll have to work around each other as best as possible. I am planning to go through the script and pick out segments where certain characters are not required (much) while will be a task in itself as the script is a real ensemble work and most of the time, all of the characters are one stage at the same time. Watch this space for further developments.

This will hopefully be a last resort option as I am HOPING that someone (or two) will be able to fiddle their timetables a little. Fingers crossed for that one. Remember, I have a cast of girls in this show. Getting them to change their schedules will be an interesting achievement, if actually achieved. Tongue in cheek if any of them happen to read this.

While I am sure that as a team, we can arrange some sort of compromise that will basically work, thinking about the potentials and options is giving me a headache all over again.

To rub salt in the wound, I am still hunting for a Script/Stage Assistant.

The hunt continues .... Jeff "Where's that Wall?" Watkins

Please try not to worry Jeff. Seriously, we'll work something out.
Once I know when you want to rehearse, I can arrange my life around that. And I'm sure the other four will be the same.

See you tomorrow and keep smiling. Chin up!

Hey Kirilee,

Congratulations on the part in 'Quake'. Hope Jeff is not too much for you. He's a very nice guy, but he sure likes to talk(no offence Jeff). I am looking forward to meeting you. I wrote and am starring in 'Awakenings' - so in a sense we'll be performing together.

Daniel.

Jeff, Glad to see you have a full cast....Good luck with the production. As Kirilee said "Try to relax..." Great advice, but I can assure you that from my own recent past experience that you will do no such thing until the show opens, (and knowing you... not even then!)

An improvement over the lost Turean photo you had mate. Elwood lives! Your confidence in me is touching and gratefully accepted. Thanks again.

Thanks for the comments also and pass on my best to Sue. I hope things are going well for her show. I heard about a few tantrums recently and I hope these have been 'resolved'.

Congratulations with finding a cast. Trust me timetabling is always difficult . . i think it's a universal theatre issue. People actually have lives . . *sigh*

Anyway good luck. and try and relax like Taurean said besides by the time opening night comes around it'll be the stage managers job to stress and panic while you sit out and enjoy the show. lol. . . hence why i refused to stage manage our production . . .

Strangely enough, any *stressing* I am actually doing (as Turean pointed out - Thanks mate Sticking out tongue ...) is when I am not actually doing anything about it. My mind tends to wander and fluster over things. However, as my wife says, I excell at telling people what to do.

Not being too sure how to take that comment, I asked for clarifications to which she said, "no, it's a good thing. You're really good at it." but then, she would say that Laughing out loud Anyway, while in the moment, I am in control. While I am away, I worry. Hmmmmm, now if only I could LIVE and ACTOR 24/7 Rolling on the floor
