OK, I am currently working as one of the board op's at a venue in Adelaide for the Fringe Festival. The venue is hostig a number of shows from interstate and overseas and we have (there are two of us) a variety of different types of lighting to operate.
The WA Ballet is facing a battle for better pay. And why not, when over half of the dancers earn less than $40 000/year. With current inflation rates and rising costs across the board, it is surprising there hasn't been more of this sooner. Apparently the Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA) don't want to have anything to do with it saying they were not responsible. Without extra funding, the company will not be able to meet the demands for a payrise and the most likely result will be strike action.
The other day during a conversation with my partner about a posting on this site she said (approximately) "but that's politics, this site is about theatre."
I also remember Molly Meldrum once saying. "There's no place in Rock music for politics" He was talking about Skyhooks "Over the Border" at the the time and I never could decide if he was being ironic or just Molly.
