This site is very slow!

"I know! Believe me, I spend much more time here than you do and I hate waiting for pages to load when I'm trying to get things done. So, as you can imagine, I'm constantly looking for ways to make the site perform faster." Grant Malcolm, site admininstrator.

Why is the site so slow?

Every page is generated live including the very latest information available. This is usually very quick - under 2 seconds per page.

Sadly we've recently been under attack from an army of zombie PCs under the control of spammers and other internet criminals. Where we might normally expect to see 20-30 "guests" on the site at one time, we've recently had as many 4-5 times that number of guests as a result of this unwanted attention. This places a fair amount of load on the server and drags down the performance for everyone. Hopefully the attention of the spammers will soon pass elsewhere.

Is there anyway of making things faster?

If you are logged in as a member, yes. Edit your account settings and look for the section where you can select which blocks should be displayed down the sides of each page. Turn off any blocks you don't wish to display.

I think this forum runs fairly good, when you consider and compare it to other forums....

A forum I used to work and maintain on, (www.forums.adventhcildren.net), has a long loading time, and there are many reasons why this is the case...as mentioned above..

factors as to how many people are on at time contributes to how slow it runs, and when you consider the 30 guest which may be on at one time, (they are often not real people) but are 'devices, tools, viruses, etc' (there is a proper term, but it is on the tip of my tongue) and they lag and slow down the server....

Other factors include what server and provider you are with...At the old forum I was working on, we moved to speed things up....but while the speed increased...the numbers we had on the board at one tiem decreased...
THis site generally always has at least 200 people on at one time, and sometimes at peaks of 1000+ members on the website...and these are proper people...check it out for yourself..

But all that taken into consideration, this site runs fairly good in terms of speed and loading times...and we should be greatful such a site is created...and while you're waiting for it to load...have a drink of tea or something
