CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

African Dance
Join Veronique from Afrotonic (www.afrotonic.com.au) in an introduction to West African dance. Let your wild spirit soar and get addicted to the joy and high energy that comes from this unique cultural experience where your body will learn how to move and express itself to the powerful beat of African drums. As well as being a unique and exhilarating experience, it's a great body workout!

1920s Charleston
The Charleston was the dance that captured the spirit of the 1920s. It was danced with wild abandon by a new generation of independent young women, in the same decade that American women first won the right to vote. For jazz era girls, this fad dance was a physical expression of their new liberation. It's also experiencing a huge revival around the world and, well, it's a heap of fun! It's energetic, upbeat and danced to toe-tapping hot jazz. Starting with the basics, we'll then run through a big Charleston repertoire, guaranteed to bring out your inner flapper!
* Please wear flat shoes with a sole that is not too sticky.

Burlesque
Burlesque is the hottest trend in town, bringing together a sizzling dance style with elaborate vintage costumes, cool retro tunes and a lot of sassy fun! In this class you'll learn how to be a total glamour queen, how to walk (even in sky-high heels!) and how to exude confidence and sex appeal! We'll explore the art of the tease-artiste - how to play with a strap, peel a glove or strip a stocking to tantalise an audience... or just that special someone! And of course, we'll cover all the fundamentals of burlesque dance! You'll shimmy, shake, undulate, bump, grind, wiggle, jiggle, twirl and swirl your way through the classic burlesque moves.
* Wear a pair of high heels that you are comfortable to dance in.

Showgirl Dance
It's time for glitz, glamour and a lot of razzle dazzle! Showgirl dancing is the ultimate girly fantasy, with all the old-world glamour of the 1940s and 1950s! If you've ever wanted to be a Rockette, a Vegas showgirl or steal the spotlight on Broadway, then this is the class for you! Drawing on vintage chorus lines, Broadway jazz dance and Parisian Can-Can, this class will introduce you to the style and explore some fun, classic moves. Just add feathers and a whole lot of glitter, and you're ready for the spotlight!
* Wear a pair of high heels that you are comfortable to dance in.

Old School Jazz
This style of African American vernacular jazz dance evolved alongside tap dancing in the early 20th century, and these fun steps spread across America and the world in the 1930s and 40s. With swing era style, old school jazz dance is all about fancy footwork with steps with names like the Shorty George, the Suzie Q, and so on. You'll love the swingin' jazz tunes in this class, and in no time you'll be doing the Rusty Dusty, the Shim Sham, the Messaround, the Boogie Down and many more!

Bellydance
Join Ayesha of Bellydance Oasis (www.bellydanceoasis.com) in this introduction to the exotic world of Middle Eastern dance! Bellydance is a dynamic and expressive danceform, a lot of fun to learn and anyone can do it! It's also fabulous for developing strength and control in your abdominals and core muscles! This class is guaranteed to get your hips rolling, your torso swaying and your belly undulating!

Blues Dance
Blues dances evolved out of the African-American blues and jazz traditions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As a solo dance, it is a slow, earthy and expressive dance style that will really get your hips and entire body moving. Like the blues music that the dance evolved to, blues dancing is about catharsis, a way to forget your worries, release tension and stomp away the blues' - a great way to relieve stress and become more aware of your body!

Burlesquercise
Bump, grind, shimmy and shake your way through a fun workout with a real difference! The class is held in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and is suitable for all ages, shapes and sizes! The workout is based around classic burlesque moves and other fun dances from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, including some sexy floor work that will really work those abs! Not only is this a great workout, but you'll leave feeling sexy, empowered and with a few new moves for the boudoir!
* Wear loose comfortable clothing (keeping in mind we'll be doing some floorwork with our legs in the air!), and comfortable shoes, or a sexy pair of high heels that you are comfortable to dance in.

1960s Go-Go Dance
Go back in time to the swinging sixties, when there was a new dance fad every week! The wild, upbeat music is guaranteed to get your toes tapping in this energetic class, and in no time you'll be doing the Monkey, the Wahtusi, the Swim, the Hully Gully, the Mashed Potato, the Twist and many more! If you love to dance or even if you have two left feet, come along and get fit the fun way, then hit the dancefloor in style!

Disco Dance
We're going back to the 1970s for some disco fun! Why not get out Saturday Night Fever and remind yourself of this funky retro party dance! In this fun and energetic class, you'll learn plenty of classic disco and hustle moves, so you'll be completely prepared for the next Soul Train you encounter! Flares and afro completely optional.
