Stages WA and The Blue Room Theatre are seeking new and emerging
writers for GROUND FLOOR; a five day intensive workshop program as part
of The Blue Room Theatre’s Summer Nights Downstairs.

This in an opportunity for exceptional new playwrights to bring new work to be
developed with high calibre dramaturges; read by professional actors; and
culminate in a showing of selected scenes to invited industry guests.

This program will focus on the fundamentals of dramatic technique, giving new
writers the skills to hone their strong creative vision to create a more polished
work. The workshops will generate quality feedback for writers within a
critically rigorous and creatively supportive environment.

While we are only seeking expressions of interest at this stage, when
application dates are released you will need to submit a new work and
participation fee, however this workshop program is heavily subsidized by
Stages WA along with some financial and venue support from The Blue Room
Theatre.

To register your Expression of Interest please email your
contact details; a paragraph outlining your writing experience; and a brief
synopsis of the play you would like to develop (including details of genre,
form and cast size) to Stages WA Director Jansis O’Hanlon: director@stages.com.au by 5pm Thursday 21 July.

Thought you knew Grimm’s fairy tales? Think again.
Once upon a time…
Hidden in the crevices, drawn from the gutters and alleyways of life, comes a startling retelling of classic fairy tales.
This deliciously wicked and dangerously funny one-woman show stars Helpmann Award winning actor and singer Ursula Yovich (Australia, Jindabyne, Waltzing The Wilarra) playing a cast of bit characters from the stories of Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and more.
From one of Australia’s most original contemporary playwrights, Vanessa Bates (Checklist for an Armed Robber), this is a black comedy with songs – a night of stories told by twilight (the original kind) with werewolves and with magic…
