Stirling Players Youth (SPY) offers young people in and around the City of Stirling a creative opportunity to learn about the different aspects of performance and production. SPY has been a part of Stirling Players Inc for the past 10 years, and we are based at the Stirling Theatre in Innaloo.
We manage a range of annual events and special projects which are programmed and run by our members, and are open to all young people interested in theatre and the performing arts.
Our next project is Monologue Masterclass, a series of FREE monologue writing workshops aiming to aid young aspiring writers in the process of preparing Original Solo Productions (OSP) and audition pieces.
The workshops will be held at Stirling Theatre, Morris Place, Innaloo in the April 2011 school holidays and will be facilitated by Andrew Matthews (Head of LOTE/English- Swan Christian College) and Therese Edmonds (professional writer for Godsend Media).
The workshops will introduce strategies for getting started: character, situation or issue; strategies for developing character at the writing stage: family, backstory, circumstances, traits, want and need; how-to strategies for developing the structure: setting, reversals, surprise, mystery, dilemma, misleads, reveals, uncertainty, emotional moment and journey. In addition, a number of monologues will be dissected to show how these strategies have been evidenced in existing work.
There will be three separate workshops each open for up to 20 participants aged 15 to 18 years, which means up to only 60 young people are able to take advantage of this amazing opportunity! For more information or to book a place in one of the workshops, email masterclass@stirlingplayers.com.au by Friday 22 April to be allocated a session. You need to be QUICK for this and, yes, bookings ARE compulsory!
Monologue Masterclass is proudly sponsored by Propel Youth Arts WA and Healthway to promote the Drug Aware message.
SPY runs in conjunction with Stirling Players Inc.
