I've always thought the Encore Night serves two purposes:
As Dean says, it guarantees an evening of great theatre - literally the "Best of the Fests" as adjudicated by some of Perth's most respected professionals.
Also, it provides these productions one last opportunity to show themselves off. Often, one-act plays undergo long rehearsal periods but only get a couple of performances at the end of the day. The Festival winners are rewarded with this showcase - a chance to shine without having to worry about adjudication. They're performing because they want to.
Of these four plays, two are laugh-out-loud comedies, one starts hilariously before getting a little spooky, and one is as powerful a drama as you're likely to see. The Best of the Fests, presented for your benefit by performers who love doing what they do.
I can think of many worse ways to spend an evening.
