All hail the amazing Kerri Hilton and her band of organisational cohorts for commitment and work done at Ground Zero to get Dramafest on. It must have taken countless hours of their own personal time and the stress of dealing with all those millions of companies, all convinced their show was the most important thing on earth. You know the ones I mean;
The company that insists on having 400 lighting changes for a One Act play and finding you completely unreasonable when you tell them that, no, the whole lighting rig cannot be changed simply for their thirty minute wonder. These are the people who feign astonishment that they have to work within the confines that everyone else has to work within, despite that being, when it comes to One Act festivals, kind of THE POINT.
The company who find it incomprehensible that, while everyone else has ten to set and ten to strike they shouldn't be allowed more time to get their three tonnes of flats and two semi-trailers of props on and off. The company that neglects to mention that their play involves throwing water all over the stage. The company that shows up late/early/drunk. The company that inappropriately fluhes toilets and screams at each other backstage while other entries are performing.
I unfortunately missed this Festival, but I have been involved in them before and I don't think anyone has any comprehension of how difficult it is to be on the ground dealing with these problems as and when they raise their ugly heads. Or to do it the kind of equinimity and huge effort to accomodate everyone's needs (no matter how unreasonable or obnoxious they are) that Kerri Hilton has always shown. You are a wonder Aunty Kerri. We're not worthy.
