Have just been to see this MTC production and I couldn't agree more with your comments (above). Bouquets to RN who worked the stage amazingly- body and soul, and was generally masterful. Many of the cast bravely performed their roles within the rigid confines of wierd, meaningless customs, seemingly elected at random from the back room of the wardrobe department and truly uninspiratinal direction.
I agree with your thoughts on accent as well as the lack of conceptional focus.
And I absolutely concur with your statement on the MTC's role in this. As our premier state theatre co. this production should be AMAZING; CUTTING EDGE; MIND BLOWING and not like this. An insult to the actors and to the audience.
Very disappointing.
