Daylight Saving has always confused me...in my mind we'd get better use of the daylight if we to put the clocks back an hour rather than forward (or is that forward rather than back? anyway, opposite to what they do now).

However I'm not sure it would make a huge difference. I've been to cities that have much longer days in Summer than we do (Vancouver, Edmonton) and it was still light AFTER we got out of the theatre. Doesn't stop people there from seeing shows.

Shakespeare in the Park here already starts in the daylight. In mid January they don't delay the start of the show, there's just an extra half hour before it gets dark enough to use the lights.

I agree that fireworks and outdoor cinema are a bit pointless while it's still light.

And I'd personally vote for later starts to seeing shows...all year around. 9pm is perfect for me. I miss a lot of shows simply because I'm out doing stuff and don't think about the time until it's sunset, and it's often too late to get my act together.
