Company information

Ashfield Youth Theatre (AYT) began in 2001 as a program of Ashfield Municipal Council. It came as a direct response to a social plan that identified the need for young people to have access to creative services in the local Ashfield area.

Since then, AYT has created 18 large-scale shows involving over 160 creative young people... run a series of wicked theatre workshops and is now preparing to 'share the love' by expanding into 4 neighbouring Inner West council areas; Burwood, Strathfield, Canada Bay and Leichhardt.

So if you're a creative young person aged between 13 - 25 years... we want to hear from you! Come and join this growing theatre community. Get involved in a production... develop new skills... hang with other like-minded creative young people. Our tutors are young(ish), funky and totally talented, bringing their professional experience to each project they work on. AYT has an awesome program begging for you to participate... and best of all - IT'S FREE!

AYT aims to:
* empower young people through the creative process
* create powerful and provocative theatre
* provide access to high quality arts programs
* develop new audiences
* be relevant to issues faced by young people

At the heart of AYT is the relationship between young people and professional theatre artists... where young people can be mentored to create exciting new work for new audiences.

AYT is located at:
Ashfield Municipal Council
Community Services 2nd flr, 260 Liverpool Rd, ASHFIELD

I'm a youth worker and think this is great program. I've just been to a production by Empower Youth which started up a couple of years ago . Great to see someone else starting up in the same area. You should get together.
Good luck and keep up the good work.

It is always good to hear that someone (be it a new company or group or an "older" rep club breaking out) is involving the youth of today more than as just actors/vocalists.

Look around at most of the  community rep clubs age group and ask yourselves "Where will the club be in 20 years?" The honest answer in most cases is "...without the youth contingent -  we would be dead or dying out."

Well done Ashfield! Keep it up!
