Bel Canto Promotions was formed in the late 90's and promotes various concerts and productions in Western Australia.    The Artistic Director, Justin Freind is considered one of Perth's leading performers.

In 1992, he commenced his training at the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music, where he gained a Certificate in Classical Music, a Diploma of Performing Arts and a Bachelor of Music (Performance). Whilst at the Conservatorium he was involved in productions of The Marriage of Figaro, The Rakes Progress, La Clemenza di Tito and had roles in Sweeney Todd, La Finta Giardinera and A Midsummer Nights Dream. As a soloist he has performed with numerous groups including; Conservatorium Chorale, The Geraldton Choral Society, The Malcolm Sargent Choir, The Savoy Singers, The Julian Singers, The Madrigal Singers, St George’s Cathedral Choir, I Voci Choir, P.L.C Choir, Aquinas College Choir, Trinity College Choir, The Lieder Society of W.A, Collegium Choirs, Perth Undergraduate Choral Society, U.W.A Choral Society and Perth Oratorio Choir.

He has also performed on stage with the Midnite Youth Theatre Co. (Wind in the Willows, Mikado) Regal Opera (Scrooge) Music Theatre Co. of W.A. (Evita, My Fair Lady) Gilbert & Sullivan Society of W.A. (Sorcerer, Gondoliers, Ruddigore, Mikado, Grand Duke, Iolanthe, Trial by Jury, HMS Pinafore, Utopia Ltd, The Pirates of Penzance, Yeomen of the Guard) Music Spectrum (Les Miserables) M.S. As a Musical Director/Conductor he has conducted Savoy Singers (99-01) The Real Sing (06-) Gilbert & Sullivan Society of WA (Cox & Box, Sorcerer, Trial by Jury, HMS Pinafore, Messmates Ahoy, Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Magic of G & S) Midnite Youth Theatre (Aspect s of Love, Ruddigore) On Stage Productions (My Fair Lady, Wizard of OZ) J&G Musical Productions (Oklahoma), Old Mill Theatre (South Pacific, Aladdin) During his busy performance schedule, Justin is the Music Administration Coordinator at Penrhos College and was the President of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of WA from 2001-2009.

In 2001 Justin performed the lead role of Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables at the Regal Theatre, to much acclaim, and was also the conducting intern for West Australian Youth Orchestra. In 2004 he released his first CD titled ‘Freindly Favourites’. Justin performed in the UK in 2004 and 2005 at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival, performing lead roles in Patience, The Zoo, Pirates of Pinafore & HMS Pinafore.

Justin has been a regular guest artist for Telethon at the seniors concerts at the Perth Concert Hall and also for the City of Perth Nativity in Forest Chase. 2006 engagements for Justin included the role of Goro in Madama Butterfly and 2007 saw him perform the title role in Orpheus in the Underworld for Opera in the Park with West Australian Opera. 2008 will see him sing the role of Goro again with WA Opera’s for Opera in the Park and will then perform as guest artist in a production of Ruddigore for RAGST in Dunedin, NZ.

Justin is a very versatile performer and enjoys performing repertoire from Baroque to Broadway, and feels equally at home whether on the stage or concert platform.
