Company information
BRISBANE ARTS THEATRE is located in the heart of Brisbane on Petrie Terrace and has been producing plays since 1936 - even during the war years, making it one of the most prolific performing companies in the world.
The Theatre contains seating for 151 patrons, and is Non Smoking, Air Conditioned, and has wheelchair access. Street parking is available including some disability parking spots (even on Suncorp Staduim event Days). The Box Office and Licensed Bar is open 1 hour prior to performances (No Alcohol is served during Childrens Shows).
PEOPLE OF THE ARTS
The Arts is Brisbane's biggest community theatre, allowing members of the community to be involved in all areas of production. This includes acting, stage management, directing, design, set and properties construction, front-of-house work, administration, music and sound production, lighting design and rigging and costume design.
The Arts Theatre has been a training ground for many performers who have gone on to professional careers, including Jennifer Flowers, Shane Porteous, Bernard King, Geoffrey Rush and Lucas Stibbard
Our Children's Theatre has also given many young people a chance to appear on stage before they attend university or step into the world of professional theatre. Many of our regular actors have gone on to QUT, USQ, and NIDA.
WORKSHOPS
The theatre holds regular Acting Classes for Adults and Children. These classes are run by qualified professionals. For details, term times and costs please contact the office on 3369 2344 or email info@artstheatre.com.au (attention: Tony Millett)
WHAT TO EXPECT
We have three strands of productions: Main House and Children's Theatre.
The Main House productions generally play Wednesday to Saturday nights at 8pm and run for 3 to 6 weeks.
The Children's Theatre performs on Saturday afternoons at 2pm, and Tuesday to Friday at 11am during School Holidays. You can hold your childs Birthday Party in the Courtyard at Interval, and the kids can meet their favourite characters after the show.
It is advised to book for the performance of your choice, as a number of shows have played to full houses with many people missing out on seats. You can also become a member of the theatre which allows you ticket savings on normal ticket prices. Call the theatre for details of membership.
