Company information
The beginnings of Burnie Musical Society were seeded in 1956 when the Burnie Glee Club Singers embarked on its first full-scale musical, The Pirates of Penzance in conjunction with the Burnie Little Theatre. Two other productions in conjunction with the Little Theatre, Mikado and Trial by Jury followed in 1957 and ’58. The performances in the old Burnie Theatre proved to be popular and after producing Iolanthe in 1960 the Glee Club Singers changed their name to Burnie Musical Society.
Over the past 50 years Burnie Musical Society has produced many successful shows including South Pacific, Oklahoma!, Annie, My Fair Lady, Oliver!, Nunsense, Chicago and Jesus Christ Superstar just to name a few. Recent years have also seen many pantomimes such as Cinderella, Mother Goose and Aladdin which have showcased the talents of many younger actors alongside experienced cast members.
