Auditions for short film

We are looking for some actors interested in working on the short film 3rd year Curtin student film "Duty of Care". As it is a student production we canot pay actors. This may be a good show reel opportunity and we will hopefully be entering the film into festivals next year.

We are shooting a pilot in two weeks for which we need one young girl around 10 - 12 years old to play Lucy.

Due to the adult content we are looking for a mature 12 year old or a teenager who could pass for a twelve year old to play Lucy. Although there are no explicit scenes in the film, we feel with the theme, the main female role would be better suited to an older girl who looks younger but is old enough to handle the content.

We are also looking for a man around 40 to mid 40s to play Sam.

The pilot scene will be shot on the 17th of Aptil (thursday) and in this scene, there will be a struggle between Lucy and Sam, I am happy to discuss this in more detail with actors and the parents.

At the moment we are casting the pilot only but this will be a great opportunity to screen test for the film which will be shot in August.

Auditions being held on Wednesday 9th of April between 9am and 12 noon at Curtin university.

Ben Young, winner of the 2005, Screen West, Young Filmmaker of the Year award wrote Duty of Care. The film explores the naivety and vulnerably of a friendly community. As a group of young girls prepare themselves for their softball grand final, so does their coach, Sam. A loving family man with community ties, Sam is the last person anyone would ever suspect to do wrong. Little do the parents know that behind the smiling face and caring nature lives a man with a different type of presence. He knows exactly what is needed to infiltrate the safety net of a small community. The film unfolds over a day as Sam describes the events of his day to the audience. What’s described as an ordinary day ends in the murder and rape of a young girl.
