Hook in Eye produces theatre that inspires audiences to engage with ideas and thoughts about contemporary life and the human condition. Hook in Eye endeavors to employ an intuitive creative process and an explorative use of space and place in its productions. Hook in Eye’s first production was Sam Shepard’s Cowboy Mouth at the Hyde Park Hotel Front Bar in January 2006. Performed in a public bar with an original soundtrack by a local band, Cowboy Mouth is a play about the meaning and purpose that rock’n’roll can bring to people’s lives. Alaska at The Blue Room Theatre in June 2009 was Hook in Eye's second production. This production by UK writer D.C. Moore is an edgy work set in a cinema multiplex that explores the manipulation of power, using race and racism as its battleground. The world premiere of Gasp, by WA writer Suzanne Rofe, will be Hook in Eye’s third production showing at The Blue Room Theatre in August 2010. Gasp explores the theme of coping with anxiety disorder in today’s society, and examines contemporary and historical treatments of anxiety. Hook in Eye director Michelle Sowden employs an intuitive and flexible creative process that allows actors, designers and writers the latitude to contribute to the creation of each production with her.
