The masterpiece of the Croatian renaissance literature, Marin Držić’s
comedy Uncle Maroje, is one of the gems of the Croatian drama literature and a
brilliant work in which the author humorously describes Dubrovnik and its
citizens who happened to find themselves in the Italian metropolis Rome.Uncle
Maroje is a fresco of a historical period and a society, a micro-cosmos in
which all human virtues and vices interweave.
