I want understanding.” Oleanna tells the story of John, a free thinking university professor on the verge of attaining tenure, and Carol, his student on the verge of failure. We witness the aftermath of Carol’s sexual harassment claim and the brutal degeneration of their relationship from cordial to savage as a bitter battle for power erupts, spirals in on itself and twists from sanity and reason to primal emotion. David Mamet, (Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Glengarry Glen Ross) is ranked with Miller, Albee and Shepard as one of America's finest living playwrights. Oleanna is one of his most controversial and celebrated masterpieces. His use of broken dialogue is masterful - sentences stretch out like a row of jagged stones.
