Company information
What is Stage Left? Stage Left is a group of mad theatre buffs located in the Goldfields region of WA, who really enjoy…. Ummmm… Theatre? Yes that’s it… Theatre. We do plays, musicals, one act plays, improvisational theatre (improv), and….. we socialise, yes lots of that! We also love road trips to Perth to attend theatre events in the big smoke. All in all anything that involves theatre and having a whale of a time! To date we have over 100 members and we are currently located at 61b Burt Street Boulder, but being a TROUPE (in every sense of the word!) we travel about and perform in all sorts of locations – town halls, amphitheatres, badminton halls, other theatres, and even at a Sheep Station once a year (watch this space for more about that......) What can I do in Stage Left? Well, we like to look at this question from the other side, “What can’t you do?” You can act, dance sing, or if you like to give all the actors the limelight and be one of the “workers” you can do lighting, sound, directing, stage hand, costuming, makeup, organise social events, help on the committee.. .there is heaps to do! And don’t be scared to do something you know nothing about. We will train you  What Qualifications do I need? Only one. A fantastically positive “can-do” attitude. Let’s face it; all us theatre types do. Our motto is, hey we do this in our spare time, so it should be as much fun as possible, and the sillier, the better. How do I join? You need to fill out an application form and be nominated by a current member of the troupe. Application fee is $40 per calendar year ($30 if after June 30th). Once your application has been approved, you are a part of the collective. Membership entitles you to: be a part of any show – on stage, back stage or front of house; receiving advanced notice on auditions, shows and social events; being eligible for discounted ticket prices on most shows; and discounted drinks at the Stage Left “Duck pond” (the bar!) I don't feed trolls usually, but my comment had the desired effect on two very mean spirited comments being removed, and rightfully so.

I should have said

Stage Left info

Hi all
Kevin Blair, Big Quack (President) of Stage Left here.
Thanks Melz for adding our info onto the ITA site.

Thought I'd give a background about Stage Left, how it came about, and what it's been up to.

The concept for a travelling theatre troop came about in October 2007 when the Goldfields Arts Centre were advised by management that they could no longer produce amateur theatre.  The growth of amatuer theatre in the goldfields saw the Goldfields Rep Club putting on 5 seasons a year, with the Arts centre also putting on 1-2 large cast shows per year.

So with the GAC (Arts Centre) withdrawing from producing, a hole was left, and Stage Left Theatre Troupe was born.

Many of our Troupe are inexperienced, but super keen, so we have spent this year building skills.

Accomplishments to date are:
- Are You Being Served @ Goldfields Arts centre Feb08 (We started this production with not a cent in the bank, a venue hire fee of $13,000 and still came out on top...albeit with more grey hair Smiling )

- Season of One Acts May08 - two locally written and the Vicar of Dibley.  For this we toured as a Theatre Troupe would.  Went to Coolgardie, Kambalda, Esperance.  And performed charity shows for Little Sisters of the Poor and also the Senior Citizens association.  Further performance for the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder for no fee at the Kal Town Hall.  Total audience for this show was approx 900 people... who says One Acts are 2nd class plays?!

- Broadway to Hollywood Musical AUG08 - Locally put together show featuring music from many musicals.  Again charity performance for Senior Citz (awesome audience) and performed at the Boulder Town hall.

- Dramafest SEP08 - It was awesome to bring two of our three one acts to Perth.  Allow all our members to see and learn from others, and to recieve critique from peers.  We had a fantastic time and will definately be back next year.

- Pirates of Penznace - Nov 08 (Theatre In the Bush). We are trying something new here.  We want to offer a Leeuwin estate Kalgoorlie style Theatre experience, so we are performing at a sheep station, 20kms from Kal, taking out everything.  Show is fully catered and there is overnight accommodation. This show is designed to be something new, and also to get some people who may not usually go to theatre to come along.  Tickets are selling very well.
We will also be doing an open aire performance of exceprts from Pirates for The Hannans Rotary Club, and also singing to the aged care residents of Little Sisters of the Poor.

Stage Left's next project is the establishment of our Youth section to take over from Freefall Youth Arts which folded a few months ago.  We should have this up and running in the next couple of months.

So thats what we are up to.  Letting more people get into Theatre, and taking Theatre to other places who may not get to see that much.

I'm aware that perhaps some adverse comments have been made on this page.  People are entitled to their opinions however I struggle to understand what these people may gain from such behaviour apart from a poor reflection.  It is my hope that the increase in community theatre offerings here in Kalgoorlie will really help improve audiences and increase the number of people getting involved.

Any clubs wishing to contact us or be involved in joint projects, or even tour to the Goldfields, please give us ahoy (no pirate pun intended Smiling
