See... THIS is why Perth cannot have nice things! Any time anyone tries to bring anything cultural, different, interesting or fun into this city, people try to tear it to pieces for no good reason. This city has so little in the way of entertainment, people should be craving it, and yet when given the opportunity to experience something different, all they can do is complain that it's not good enough.

Useless offerings such as your comments, which can barely be described as a valid opinion given they contain no substance, bring nothing to the table. Such comments are devoid of thought, and are made to what end? Surely it is better to support those trying to breathe new life into the Perth entertainment scene by offering CONSTRUCTIVE criticism to bring improvement rather than baseless statements. Instead we breed a mindset of failure, a thinking that "new" is not accepted, so why try? And we go back to square one. Back to a city devoid of change or thought. No wonder Perth is known as Dullsville.

I say well done to anyone who is trying to bring new experiences to Perth, on any level. This city deserves more of everything!

Nay Sayers

There are nay sayers where-ever you go. It is symptomatic of the "Can Please Everyone" syndrome and not something unique about Perth. Some people may be honestly offended or against a thing. Others just like stirring things. Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference.

Even the BEST show has its share of negative feedback. Most of it comes down to personal preference.

What I find more upsetting than the appearance of nay sayers is that those that did enjoy or do support tend not to raise their voices. You always hear when someone doesn't like something. It is very easy to be negative. Being positive seems to be harder.

Rest assured they are out there.

For those whom may be curious, here are some links that explain the history of Burlesque, and as Natey says, Burlesque was the stylised and theatrical beginnings of the rather sleazy Strip Joints we are familiar with today.

Well done genius, you have found a the connection between stripping and burlesque. Unfortunately I'm all outta gold stars. Burlesque was like the beginning of strip tease. A precursor to modern stripping. (I know thats probably a big word for you, but google is your friend) Stripping is the modern day version of burlesque, minus the early era choreography, music and modesty, replacing such components with g-strings, bass lines and fake tits.

I haven't been to a strip club since my 18th, but from what I recall, a dimly lit club with poles, naked women, drunken sailors and desperate sleazes is nothing like a burlsque show.

Burlesque shows in Perth, being the bogan oasis that it is, are bound to draw in a few perverts. But highly likely they'll leave a burlesque show unsatisfied by the lack of nudity, as burlesque contains tease, not graphic displays. Perhaps some of the guys are just cheering for flesh... just as well burlesque crowds are more often women who bring their partners than just groups of sleazes, isn't it.

You'll probably also find burlesque troupes often contain confident women with a range of skills, such as profession dancing, singing and costume design... as is the case for Perths very own Sugar Blue troupe.

But again, thanks for contributing another uneducated opinion to the internet, surely it can never contain enough!

I wouldn't take the comments of a couple of people as being reflective of the overall attitude of people in Perth. I haven't seen sugarblue's burlesque show, indeed i've never heard of it till now.

Perth can and does have nice things, if you have people happily handing you their money to see your show and people enjoying and cheering the performers on then clearly you shouldn't take the critics and trolls who occasionally rear their heads so seriously, the only thing you achieve is to dignify their criticisms of being worthy of response.

Personally i've done a few of Sugar Blue's short courses and had a blast. It's classy and tasteful tease, confidence building, you meet awesome people and have a few weeks of good laughs and at the end put on a show. . kinda sound familiar?

I support the Sugarblue girls. They have done an awesome job at bringing something new into the spotlight of Perth. Something that makes me want to go back to Northbridge on a week night.

Keep it up girls. I hope you find this site useful (despite the few who decide to be painful, of course).
