Also, does anyone know of any upcoming Commedia performances/auditions? I'd love to check them out.
Thanks Smiling

First off, where are you?

Secondly, are you looking for plastic versions, or the more papier mache types?

You can always make your own.. they're not that hard to do.

Hello, I'm in the Perth area but don't mind traveling to find them. I'm looking for the papier mache types unless I manage to find some amazing plastic ones. I'm looking to collect them and am probably not capable of making them because I have no arms. no, sorry I do have arms I just want to purchase ready-made ones. thanks Smiling

I'm not in Perth and can't help you on locations. Perhaps one of the other regulars could help. I can't think though that you'll have much luck buying a wide range of masks in papier mache.

I have a particularly artistic sister here in Perth (Jarrahdale, to be more precise) who hand crafts the most exquisite masks, amongst other things, and who might be persuaded to produce a collection for you. I'm planning to see her tomorrow (Thursday,12th March) and can put the proposition to her if you wish. It can't hurt to ask!

Dear Captivate,

In answer to the second part of your original posting, re 'are there any comedia auditions coming up', yes there is/are,

Old Mill Theatre will be auditioning for Goldoni's The Venetian Twins on May 17th

This is NOT any of the 'musical versions' but the straight play.

See the auditions page for details.

Just to clarify;
Yes we are doing The Venetian Twins at The Old Mill but it is not traditional Commedia. It is not masked, it is not improvised and is was known as the either the first scripted Commedia play or the play that killed off Commedia! The characters are from Commedia, the plot is Commedia but it is not traditional Commedia. On top of that, this is a modern treatment of it. I am using an English 1993 translation by Ranjit Bolt done for the RSC. The language is very modern.

But as Norma says, check out the auditions page.

Cheers,
Vanessa Jensen
The Venetian Twins Director
