PG's Agency in Sydney

Hi,

PG's Agency in Sydney used to be quite good - haven't been with them for a few years though so don't know of their recent history. They were happy to give me an interview, all their info upfront and for me to go away and compare to other agency's (they even offered to give me a list of them). On thier books I got regular work with them - they did extras casting for movies (Danny Deckchair), commercials and TV (All Saints, Always Greener). Stay away for MCTV and Rosey's. (Both ask for an upfront fee and in 2 years MCTV did not send me on a single job).

While currently not illiegal in every state and country, it is illegal to ask for an upfront fee in many countries and in QLD. If you consult with you state based union, they will tell you that upfront fees should not be paid unless they can prove that they are for very specific purposes such as going on a registry or photos. However, these things are optional. You should not be forced to pay upfront fees to simply join an agency, nor should you have to use their photographer, do their courses, go on their web-site, etc. These things are all optional.

If they insist on an upfront fee, walk away.

Hi Sarah,

Thats right! Generally, professional agencies, that have actors, who are actually getting paid work, on their books, don't charge for joining. We have a comprehensive guide being launched this month, that will inform you where all the auditions are on in australia, reputable agencies, photographers etc., how to promote your self and eventually a step by step guide on how to get into the industry. If you email me, I will advise you as soon as its launched at www.dare2audition.com, email me at auditions@dare2audition.com

Keep you dream alive!

But does the industry need more ezines? More places to hunt for partial information? Another site claiming to offer all you need but delivering only a fraction of what is freely available?

Or does the industry need more co-operation between information providers? Open frameworks for the exchange, interchange and sharing of information? Opportunities for the industry to build its own resource through direct contribution and participation?

This site continues to evolve and grow. Continues to offer resources for sharing and syndication:

I agree - that's why I'm trying as much as possible to get other publications to share their info with me. And actually, you'd be surprised at how little people want to share; they see everyone else as competition.

Frog and Actors are both high profile agencies in Perth. Frog a big player in theatrical casting and both have strong reputations. I wouldn't consider them to be Extra Agencies as such, more Main Role agencies.

Krissy Westwood on the other hand is a possible alternative. I have a couple of friends signed up with them and they get regular extra or small commercial type work. I was with them for a little while before taking a break and I also got a few gigs with them. Their intial requirements (from Memory) aren't all that high either. Easy to join up.

Visit MEAA website to get the contact number from their list of registered agents and ring them. Ask them if they charge a fee. I do know that they supply extras to All Saints etc. and along with PG's are one of the more reputable extras agents in Sydney. Getting work well depend on you as well. If you have the right look, attitude and enthusiasm there should not be a problem. Keep yourself fresh in their minds by calling every now and again and doing a great job when you do get sent out. I am looking at finding an extras agent because I want to get into acting but now I am confused! I have been searching searching searching for a reputable agent but all anyone ever has to say is bad things about all the agencies I've looked at.... So this is what I have heard from various sources: BAD - Rosey's, MCTV, Blackbox Management, MAMM. I have heard the following agencies are OK - Sinacori, PG's.
I am located in Sydney. If anyone knows anything about an excellent agency that is actually decent.. I'd love to know before I pay for their services. Thanks for the help guys!

Hi I applied to Sinacori Agency about 2 months ago, they are very serious about their work., They seem to want to want to help young actors and they have some great credentionals on their site www.sinacori.com.au, they also denied my application because I didn't call them back when they tried to get intouch with me, I didn't return their call so they sent me an email saying that "being contactable was the first thing that anyone should make available when looking for work or at least if Sinacori Agency leaves a message you should get back to us within a couple of hours, it is crucial to show the Professional Film and Television industry that you are realiable. I have not dared apply again just incase they remember my application.

Did MD recieve any useful advice with his/her query about agencies in Melbourne? I am a new mother with a 9 month old baby. I myself have a performance background (tho' in stage rather than film/tv) & wondered whether I might look at doing some "mother & child" extras work since we're just mucking around at home anyway! Can anyone suggest the better/busier extras agencies in Melbourne?

I have been with Roseys for 7 years and have had constant work through their agency. Extras work is casual, I understand that and am very happy with the way I'm treated at Roseys. I think it's unfair that Rosey's are getting such harsh treatment on this forum; I have only ever found them to be very professional and friendly.

In response to the last comments about both Roseys and MAMM - both of these companies charge you a fee to have you represent them. An reputable agent will not charge you ANYTHING to join them. It is ILLEGAL in the UK and in Queensland - and for good reason. If an agency is already making money out of you for nothing, why do they need to bother finding you work? The only money an agent should get out of you is a percentage. Check out the Blackbox thread if you need more info on agencies that charge fees and why it is wrong. It's all been posted before. (So have comments by agency employees posing as happy clients).

I'm studying documentary-making at a uni in Melbourne and I'm writing a doco script on TV and film extras. Is there anyone out there who lives in Melbourne, has worked as an extra and would be willing to chat about their experiences? If the doco gets made (which I'll know in the next few weeks), then I'd also ask that our crew film your responses, but at this stage, a phone or email chat would be great.

I just signed my 14 year old daughter up with Roseys agency in Sydney. Unfortunately I was late to find all these comments I would of think twice before paying to them any money. Yes they are friendly especially before getting your money. After you payed you are nearly tossed out the door, hardly have an opprtunity to ask questions. They dont even charge the same price. I met another mother who payed $250.00 for a year for her 15 year old daughter where I payed $350 for exactly the same thing. Can you get your money back?

STAY CLEAR OF THESE!...
Author: Diana De Paulo (not verified)
Date: 07/09/2006 - 12:31

Hi,

I'm from Sydney, & I think this is a GREAT site and thank you all for your valuable input. I agree Roseys is bad agency and only after people's money, so stay clear from them. Also, Ice Models is also bad. They pressure you into paying upfront fee. When I told them I needed to think about it, they said: "What's there to think about?" I felt that they treated me so awful that it wasn't worth giving them $250.

Another one to stay clear of is NK Models, based in the city(Central). They made me fork out $350. I've been with them for over a year & haven't got a single job. Sure the lady is nice to you & promises you work, but once she's got your money, she then tells you to get out the door because she's got other people to 'sign up'. I've been ringing her in relation to why I haven't got any work, & she uses the excuse that she's been busy & will call you back. Yeah right! Either that, or her receptionist takes a message for you, & promises the 'manager' will call you back, but she never does. Also, I noticed that she put my WORST photo up on her website, when I had much more appealing photos that could of been used...

Be aware. They are always in the Telegraph. Don't fall for them like I did... Hope this helps...
