Kevan Hook

Dr J | 28/11/2011 - 22:19

I'm a little surprised there's nothing here about Kevan Hook.

I came looking for more info, and hopefully confirmation, but I'm hearing chatter that Kev was tragically taken from us a few days ago.

I didn't know him well but he was a damn good bloke. I'd often catch up with him at Playlovers or Stirling, and, at this time of year, he was usually dressed as Father Christmas in Myer.

Sad news and a cruel loss. Condolences to his friends and family.

Afraid so, Jarrod. I've only heard about it on facebook. Only knew him to nod to, but it is sad to lose one of the theatre family.

There's a fitting piece on page 5, showing Kevan in his Festive finery.

Farewell Hookie

Deeply saddened to note the passing of Kevan Hook.

I knew Kevan as a passionate volunteer working with people with disabilities in the nineties, lunches in his little unit looking out over Herdsman Lake and then as a tireless worker in community theatre with Playlovers, GRADS and Stirling Players. Always a wicked smile at the ready.

Vale, Kevan.

Kevan was the firearms / safety expert when we performed POPCORN with Blak Yak at the Studio Theatre, Subiaco a few years ago. A generous and kind hearted bloke, always sparking with good humoured energy, I enjoyed catching up with him at various shows. To see his image pop up on my screen this morning and read the headline is just unbelievable, an absolute tragedy. I'll miss seeing you around mate.

I knew Kevan from Stirling

I knew Kevan from Stirling Players, through building and dismantling sets, and performing (Stirling and Playlovers). He was always up for a prank. I hope one day to achieve the community-mindedness embodied by Kevan. A thoroughly good man who will be sadly missed. Deepest condolences to family and friends

I won't be able to listen to The Shadows again without thinking of Kevan. I had my usual 1960s pop music playing nice and loud while Kevan and I worked on a set out at Stirling, last year, I think it was...and his enjoyment of it (especially The Shadows) contributed to a mutually pleasurable day. Like all who knew him, I'm shocked and saddened by his passing in the most awful of circumstances. He'll be greatly missed.

I first met Kevan about 20 years ago when I was singing with Perth Oratorio Choir. A little later, he found his way to Playlovers, where he seemed very happy to belong. I only spoke with Kevan a few weeks ago at another funeral. He was up to his usual lively best.

I can make my way to any of the railway stations on the Joondalup line, if some kind soul would be happy to give me a lift from there.

There was a nice story in the Stirling Times this week. I think there was a link here but it's since been removed.

I don't recall seeing one. Was it the North or South edition? Trying to search for it on the Community Newspaper site and cannot find it.

Ah, found it... Link is a little difficult to get but here it is...
