Playing Shakespear - John Barton - On DVD

Labrug | 04/08/2010 - 13:29

I have often heard it said that if you want to play Shakespeare then get your hands on John Barton's Book Playing Shakespear. Based upon a TV series done some years back now, it is considered essential reading by anyone doing or contemplating Shakespearian Theatre.

The TV Series will very shortly be available on DVD and I thought I should let everyone know. JB HiFi will be stocking this collection (3 DVD Box Set) for $40 as of the 12th this month from their online store. See the link below.

And if you don't like ordering online

Darren Bilston is currently in charge of DVDs at JBHiFi in Leeming, I'm SURE he'd order some in if you ask nicely!

Already ordered my copy from the original Perth store (the one downstairs off the mall.) Said it will in-store same time as the online date. All's good.

By the time it landed on my doorstep (a whole week and a half EARLIER than anticipated/advertised), and including PPH costs from the UK... $28.00 Australian.

AND it arrived before the Australian release date...

Jawdropping!

:EDIT: Doesn't look like one can repeat that performance... sadly. Was yours region coded then?

Hacked!

Rgion coding doesn't concern me anymore, as all my players are "hacked" to read all discs. If you can, set your player to Region 0 so you can read everything.

Amazon is fast becoming my "one stop sop" for all this kinda gear...

DVD Region coding

Yes, let me reiterate El's very valid point. Most DVD players these days can be modified with a very simple point and set code via the remote to read all regions. A simple google search should assist in that regard. There were whispers that such action invalidates warranties but;
1) Players are so cheap these days - who cares
2) You'd have to be unlucky for yours to snuff it in what is generally a 12 month warranty term
3) I've been advised by sales people at Harvey Norman that it's a load of rubbish - it has no effect on the warranty terms

Sorry - DVD coding once more

Some players actually require you to download a file from the net, burn a disc, and insert into player. When you push play it automatically changes the software internally to accept all region coding. This was the case with my Blu-Ray player for example.

Manly Musical Society (Sydney) presents
Oklahoma!

David Izzard

Oklahoma! is the one of the first of what were called the American ‘book’ musicals where the music and lyrics added to and expanded on the story and as a result includes such classics as “Oh what a beautiful morning”, “Surrey with a fringe on top” and the cheeky “I’m jest a girl who Caint say no”. Manly Musical society in association with Bizzie productions have taken this well-loved musical and breathed new life into it with an amazingly talented young cast. The result is a vibrant and energetic retelling of this much loved piece. Book your tickets today to see the best of Sydney community theatre come together to present one of the most loved musicals of our time.
