Has anyone in recent times staged "by Jeeves"?

And if so, how did you deal with the music?

This musical has been proposed for Huon Valley Theatre, but on receiving the score, our Musical Director has said that the score is impossible to work with. It is small, cramped and nearly illegible.

On contacting the agent, the Director was informed rthat that was all there is.

I haven't had the opportunity to look at the score myself yet . . . so I am only going on what I've been told.

Does this experience sound familiar with anyone?

Wouldn't most muso's just have a blown up copy produced or put on thier MacHines at home via a scanner thingamy & adjust the size to thier requirements?

Thus unworry about copyright, as is the norm anyway!

I expect we would need to do something like that.

Someone else responded with their experience via inbox, observing that: "The score was almost impossible to read (tiny, hand written".

I'm curious about how a distributor can get away with providing material that is not fit for purpose. It's a bit like buying a car with a blown motor.

Not only with scores but

Not only with scores but authorised scripts as well, that look like they are copies of the authors  orginal work in progress, typed on an old manual typewriter with all of it's unedited mistakes  & subsiquent pencil ins & other markings.

Yet they quick to charge for any damage that occurs to scrips, but never seem to rectify them, just keep on charging each group for the orginal damage.

A lot of proeaters  automatical reproduce the orginal script on to a computer, for the SM's bible & include it in the production database for cues & WWW [net] forms & whatever.

I had a copy of the score

I had a copy of the score on perusal a couple of years ago. The Script was typed, although from memory the lyrics of the songs were missing.

The score was handwritten, and in short form - just a melody line, lyrics and chord names with an indication of the accomp style. The rehearsal pianist would be required to interpolate from that.

I believe that the performance material is better, but you might like to contact The Genesian Theatre Company in Sydney (I saw there production a couple of years ago) for their view.
