CQCM - Bachelor Music Theatre course

Hi everyone

Just wondering, does the Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music still run the Bachelor of Music Theatre course? I was wanting to apply for the 2008 intake but according to when I tried to put it in my preferences when applying to QTAC it says it is withdrawn. Any help would be greatly appreciated, still kind of new to this applying thing, all very daunting. Thanks!

Hi
I'm a CQ local. The course on QTAC you refer to is the Bachelor of Perf. Arts at Rockhampton. That is showing as withdrawn. Poor course.
The Music Theatre course is at the Mackay Campus which is the Conservatorium but run by CQ Universtity so you should check that as it is a separate course.

Checked again. The Music Theatre course has gone too. It has had quite a few years to get it right - whatever reasons it hasn't. On paper it looked better - shows that's not the best way to judge I guess. Resources better placed elsewhere.

Hey there,
I was a past student of the course, and I would recommend finding other options. Out of my whole year, i think a total of 3 people graduated. I think it would be good for someone who just wants a taste of what it is like, but its not a course that really sets you up for what its actully like out there. I assure you when you work on a professional show, you dont do an intense week of dance or acting rehearsals per month, its constantly in your face. The course is very much voacl based, but if you dont know how to teach yourself, your stuffed. the 30 mins you get a week with your teacher arent very informative, and you feel like you are being jipped. come monday morning at workshop, you feel completely unprepared and useless.
I left the course, to persue the field on my own, and had more luck telling people that i hadn't studied there as opposed to saying i had, as all i got back was negative feed back from directors etc. I dont know if it has changed much since i left, but from what i heard, it still sounds the same. I would suggest trying out for another music based course at somewhere like VCA or NIDA. Even if you focused soley on one of your majors like voice or dance for a few years until a institue out there comes up with the goods.
I may sound very negative, but at least you have a heads up before your parents fork out a whole heap of money or you incur one hell of a hecs bill for something thats just going to disappoint
