CAUTION at the Blue Room.
It has been a long, long time since I have seen a production as absorbing, as powerful, and with as much impact as the show I saw tonight. If you have never been to a Blue Room show - make this your first, if you can only afford to go to one show a year - make it this one; if youre lazy - get off your butt, if youre uncomfortable with the subject matter - youre missing out on seeing some very talented actors pull off a gripping piece of theatre. I was tense throughout. I felt ineffectual, angry, frustrated, disheartened and concerned. I cried and I laughed - I was involved. The setting, staging and seating maximised audience engagement, making me lost in a world that I
wasnt that comfortable to be in. I wont single out the actors as I felt they all did incredible work; Ian Bolgia, Claire Hooper, Allan Mathiasch, Simon Clark, Kara Sands - Congratulations. All were extremely strong and rooted into their characters psyche.
Yes I lost a few words, but words werent important, I could read the characters so well I didnt need to hear dialogue to know what was happening. Wonderful to see such natural performances. Kudos to Cara Sutcliffe for orchestrating the entire piece and being unafraid of keeping in the pauses, an amazing director. For those of you unfamiliar with Mike Leigh now is your chance to see his style at its best - I wont say
you will enjoy this production but I hope you appreciate it.
