The 1812 Theatre is one of the most successful amateur theatre companies in Australia with a history that spans over 50 years. Each year we stage 4 Seasons. A Season consists of 23 performances over 5 weeks. It is not uncommon for a Season to be completely sold out within one week of tickets becoming available. Ticket sales are by subscription. All of our 1700 subscribers are notified by newsletter, receiving first preference where possible and the response is immediate.

While we are located in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne, our audience is broad and diverse, coming from all over the metropolitan area and beyond. Many of our subscribers have been with us for a number of years and we have over 200 Life Members { 20 years as an 1812 Subscriber}. Our policy of play selection is first and foremost to achieve a balance of plays which have general appeal to our subscribers and are challenging to both the audience and those participating. A night out at The 1812 Theatre is seen by many of our subscribers as outstanding value and enjoyment. When they arrive they are given complimentary programme and drinks and after the performance they are invited to join the cast and crew in the foyer for complimentary supper; either champagne and hors-d'oeuvres or coffee and biscuits.

The 1812 Theatre Pty Ltd now owns its own theatre and facilities in Rose Street, Upper Ferntree Gully. The theatre itself seats 150 patrons. We have a full set of lighting and sound equipment and our wardrobe department is outstanding for an amateur company having won several awards. We pride ourselves on the quality of the sets and properties for each season. Set-building is a community activity where everyone is encouraged to come and contribute regardless of technical ability.
