The Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation for the ongoing support, encouragement and development of non-professional music theatre in the state of Victoria, Australia.

Victoria has a very strong non-professional music theatre tradition. For many years, a large number of groups have staged a wide range of productions of high standard, but in recent times steeply rising costs and a more complex legislative environment have made running non-professional theatre companies and producing musicals more difficult.

Formed in 1986, the Guild acts both as an umbrella organisation for non-professional theatre companies producing musical theatre and as an information resource for individuals. Representing approximately 50 Victorian non-professional theatre companies producing musical theatre, we encourage the musical theatre community to share skills and resources, and through advocacy hope to enlist wider support on a much greater scale than individual companies can achieve. Individual (Guild Club) and Theatre Company memberships are available for an annual subscription, and the Guild is run by an annually elected Executive Committee.

Member benefits include Seminars and Workshops and the newsletter Guild Notes. Companies might also be interested in our group Insurance scheme and the Annual Awards programme and Awards Night, as well as networking, promotion and resource opportunities.

Aims and Objectives

To support, encourage and develop non-professional musical theatre in Victoria.
To encourage co-operation between Victorian musical theatre organisations in order to:
a. rationalise expenditure on plant and equipment
b. avoid unnecessary and wasteful duplication of effort in staging and programming
c. improve standards of production and performance by facilitating the sharing and exchange of experience and talent.
To establish a physical and administrative infrastructure to encourage such co-operation.
To encourage and develop the full range of talents and skills associated with the development of quality musical theatre.
To encourage the preservation of historical materials associated with the growth and development of non-professional theatre in Victoria.
