Young People and the Arts Australia is a national professional association representing and promoting professional arts organisations and individual artists whose work primarily focuses on engaging children and young people in the arts.
YPAA is the leading national organisation advancing the arts for children and young people by promoting participation in the arts as a fundamental recreational right, and central in developing the imagination, creativity and individual potential of young people.
Our services and activities influence, inform and enable the development of opportunities for children and young people in the arts. They include:
Showcasing and promoting the diverse range of high quality professional arts programs and activities offered by our members for children and young people.
Improving community and government understanding of the importance the arts for children and young people by providing research information and statistical data illustrating the benefits to young people gained as a result of participation in the arts.
Advocating for increased resources and improved professional conditions to support established and emerging professional artists who primarily produce work for young audiences or who work with young people to create new art work.
Ensuring high quality professional development opportunities are provided for arts practitioners working with children and young people or who produce work for young audiences.
Encouraging a network of like minded people who actively support the engagement of children and young people in the arts to share information, establish partnerships, share resources and increase arts opportunities for young people in Australia
As the Australian Centre for ASSITEJ International (Association of Theatre for Children and Young People), YPAA provides the Australian connection to an international network of theatre for children and young people, linking thousands of theatres, organisations and individuals through national centres in more that 70 countries.
