Marcel Pagnol

Astrid Kennedy-Dupavillion and Christine Tipton

This year's 2005 UWA French Play "Fanny" will be performed in the Dolphin Theatre, UWA from 7:30 on the 4,5,6 and 11,12,13 of August.

A family comedy and love story set in the Marcel Pagnol’s Marseille in the 1930’s, the play tracks the choice of the young heroine Fanny between waiting for her lover Marius to return from the sea, or for the sake of her unborn child’s respectability, to marry another. Fanny’s playwright Marcel Pagnol is most notably known for his films Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources. His characters are delightfully human and their predicaments are guaranteed to appeal to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

The play will be performed in its original French with English subtitles projected and is adapted, directed and performed by local university students. The unique fusion of the French language, the theatre and voluntary student participation provides a creative and cultural experience of incalculable value for all involved.

Tickets are available at the door or from the Octagon Theatre BOCS office on (08) 6488 2440. For further ticket information and group bookings, please contact Trent Bowen on 0422 139 350.
