A SERVANT TO TWO MASTERS

Is a lively and intelligent translation adapted by Lee Hall in 1999 from the original Commedia dell'arte script, penned by Carlo Goldoni in 1749. Goldoni was the first person to actually have written a script for this hilariously comedic art form.

Pantomime, Comic Theatre and Farce in all its glory from the sublime to the ridiculous was born as Commedia dell'arte sometime in the 1550s at the height of the reformation in Northern Italy.

The play tells how the devious Truffaldino managed to work for two masters at the same time but with many mishapson the way, while also making advances to a pretty servant girl.

Whilst the theme goes back to the dawn of time and teh costumes reflect this, the language is 21st century English, although bawdy at times it is suitable for everyone young and old. There will be lots of fun, mime, slapstick and laughter.

It will be directed by Ailsa Travers who is well versed in this form of theatre and who's last playt at Garrick (The Sleeping Prince) won the Philip Jamieson award for 2004.

A Servant To Two Masters opens at the Garrick Theatre on the 2nd December and closes on the 17th December with a matinee on the 4th at 2.00pm.
