Neil Simon

Craig Smith

IN THE 1960s and 70s playwright Neil Simon introduced the world to an odd couple named Oscar Madison and Felix Unger.

During the eighties Neil Simon wrote an all female version of his famous play, and reintroduced his original male leads, this time as divorcee women Olive Madison and Florence Unger.

First appearing on the MATES stage almost a decade ago, “The Odd Couple: the female version” will be returning to the Birkdale School of Arts Hall in November this year.

True to the traditional story Florence Unger is finicky and fussy, while Olive Madison is untidy and uncouth. These two may be friends, but can they share an apartment without driving each other crazy?

Each week these women get together with their girlfriends for evenings consisting of trivial pursuit, angst and alcohol. Their interaction takes the audience on a journey through the lives of these wonderfully unique women with varied pasts, relationships and issues.

Experienced MATES performers Victoria Nicholson and Gina Eastes are sublime in the lead roles, and director Craig Smith has assembled a fine cast of supporting performers who provide the framework for this hilarious and heart-warming comedy.

Bookings are now being taken for MATES’ five night season which commences on Saturday, 5th November and continues on November 12th, 19th, 26th and Friday, 18th November. Doors open at 7pm and the curtain opens at 7.45pm.

Tickets start at $15 for adults, $12 for OAPs and tables of ten or more are $12. Admission price includes a light supper; and a licensed bar is available with very reasonable priced refreshments.

Group bookings are encouraged; however patrons are strongly advised to make large bookings early to avoid disappointment.

MATES confidently expect tickets for this show to sell rapidly, therefore bookings are definitely essential.
