Jo Merrey and Strange Arrangements

Jo Merrey

In 1998, after beginning life in Melbourne, Strange Arrangements made Perth home. With their return they brought with them the wonderful productions of TRANSISTOR: WAVING AT MARCONI and OPTICAL WRECKAGE. In 1999, having been invited to perform VERTICAL HOLD for Dancers are Space Eaters at PICA, Strange Arrangements is proud to present CADENCE, a new collaborative piece which merges traditional narrative with physical theatre.

On the dance floor Marcy and Laurence are perfect. They move in harmony. Š

Or, at least they seem to.

As Marcy struggles to keep pace with her partner she realises that she is trapped. Often, she finds herself dancing backwards - rushing to a goal she can not see. It seems there is no way out of the set moves.

Set in the confines of a competitive arena and rehearsal room, CADENCE revolves around the disintegration of a dancing partnership. As Marcy takes the lead, the dance becomes a prelude to death: the ultimate break-up.

THANK GOD FOR FALSE EYELEASHES, SEQUINS AND STILETTOS!
