Derek Benfield

Nicola Bond & Peter Kirkwood

Harbour Theatre, Fremantle's only and original community theatre, proudly presents for the first season of 2002:

"Toe in the Water"

A comedy by Derek Benfield and directed by the award winning directors Nicola Bond of Alfred Cove and Peter Kirkwood of Shelley. Nicola and Peter have been involved in Community Theatre for many years as directors, actors and writers and have won various prestigious awards for their contributions to Community Theatre. Most recently they have directed the highly successful productions "Rebecca" and "Summer of the Seventeenth Doll".

"Toe in the Water" is a hilarious, contemporary farce which will have audiences convulsed with laughter. When Gerald Corby (played by Kim Taylor of Atwell) goes to spend a few days in a health farm, presided over by the highly moral Mr. Potter (Norman Heath of Bibra Lake) he anticipates a period of peace and tranquility. However, his hopes are soon dashed by the arrival of his secretary Sandra (Tina Cooke of Palmyra), who is wearing her hitherto hidden passion for him and very little else. Linda (Naomi Mathias of Willagee) is Gerald's daughter and unbeknown to him, has arranged a naughty assignation with her boyfriend Rodney (Damian Woollam of Lynwood) of whom Gerald strongly disapproves. To add further confusion Gerald's wife Marion (Celia Andrews of South Fremantle) turns up on her way to visit a "friend". The resulting mix-ups and misunderstandings caused by saucy deceit and amorous adventures gone wrong prove more than a headache for the hapless Mr. Potter, who strives desperately to keep the moral fabric of the health farm intact.

The well-drawn and varied characters in this riotous romp combined with the excellent acting skills of a very experienced cast, some of whom are well known to regular Harbour Theatre audiences, will provide an evening of good clean fun for all the family. What better way to start the New Year!
