Robert Jeffreys

Cox Four

This dark, surprising and humourous play explores the driving forces of gender, money, ambition and sex. Four lifetime mates, four surviving members of a school rowing team are to meet for their five year reunion, where the traditions of 'business and debauchery' are to be followed. These ' pillars of the community' and 'pillars of masculinity', are about to face their greatest nightmare...

Thoroughly entertaining but with very powerful moments, this play dives below the surface to confront their very basic fears. The characters, wanting to run for cover rather than face them, become trapped by an instinct to belong, to test their own courage and the strength of their mateship. Cox Four is gritty and humourous and asserts that freedom can be just one act of courage away.

Cox Four is a bold new work from an exciting new West Australian playwright. Robert Jeffreys wrote the acclaimed production The Messenger, staged at the Blue Room in Nov 2001.

"Robert Jeffreys will have a great impact on the local theatre scene"
